Every color from a plant

In El Chino, a village on the Tahuayo River, the women of the Manos Amazónicas association harvest leaves from the chambira palm, strip them into fiber, dye it with plants from the forest and weave it into baskets, bowls and animals. Nothing in the work is synthetic.

In their own words

The weavers describe what changed when the money began to come from their own hands: milk and clothes for their children, what the children need for school, savings put away and a small shop. Some have stopped hunting and fishing and now plant chambira on their farms. The film is in Spanish with English subtitles, and was shot on the Panasonic LUMIX S1II.
